2nd Semester under way…

February 3, 2010 by mrbrandl

To begin the 2nd semester, you should be working on Module 6.  I have set up the 2nd semester so that you have exactly one assignment per day.

For example, during the first week, you should have completed Assignments 6.01 to 6.05.  During the 2nd week, you will need to complete 6.06 to 6.09.  I only assigned 4 during week 2 because of the CAHSEE test the 10th graders took.  Here’s a schedule for Module 6:

Week of 1/25 – 1/29:  Assignments 6.01 – 6.05 – One per day.

Week of 2/1 – 2/5: Assignmnets 6.06 – 6.09 – One per day, except for Tuesday.

2/8 – Holiday     2/9 – 6.10     2/10 – 6.11      2/11 – 6.12     2/12   - Module6 Test

Email me for any questions.  You will not be able to receive full credit if you don’t turn each assignment in on time.

Review Worksheet for the final exam…

January 8, 2010 by mrbrandl

The Review for your final exam is now in Moodle.  I placed it in the Information Station.  This is your assignment for next week.  You can break it down to about 15 problems per day:

(It is worth 50 points!!!)

Monday 1/11 – Problem #’s 1-15

Tuesday 1/12 – #’s 16-30

Wednesday 1/13 – #’s 31-45

Thursday 1/14 – #’s 46-60

Friday 1/15 – #’s 61-76

Print the document and do all your work on the worksheet.  Scan and email if you have a scanner.  Otherwise, create an answer sheet in Word and type in your answers.  Submit via email.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome back!!!

January 5, 2010 by mrbrandl

Welcome back from vacation.  I hope all of you had a restful break and/or got a chance to get a little more caught up if you needed to.

Important things – write these down!!!

1.  We are now closing in on the end of the semester.  The last day to turn in any work for credit is Wednesday January 20th, that is 2 weeks from tomorrow.

2.  Your Module 5 test is in Moodle for you to complete by the end of the week.

3.  Next week you will have a final review packet to work on that will help you prepare for your final.

4.  Your final will be given to you the week of Jan 19-22.  I am not sure yet if it will be online or at the school.  My guess is online, but like I said, I’m not sure yet.

So make sure you get things submitted to me so that I can give you credit for everything, including all your Module Tests.

Let me know what I can do to help.

What you should be doing this week:

October 28, 2009 by mrbrandl

What you should be doing this week:

Each of you should be putting in 1 hour per day for this class, especially if you are behind.

You should have turned in the Module 3 test by now, so if you have not, please do so very soon.

If you started this class late, please continue to get caught up. We are half way through the semester and we have to cover 6 Modules before Winter break.

I have not put Module 4 into Moodle yet, it will begin next week, on Monday 11/2.

If you need anything, communicate with me. Just send me an email and let me know what I can do to help. Mr B

Module 3 – parallel lines – more helpful websites

October 23, 2009 by mrbrandl

Happy Friday, I hope everyone is doing well.

I wanted to pass along a couple more websites that might help:

For osme parallel line help: http://www.mathwarehouse.com/geometry/angle/transveral-and-angles.php

I found that at www.mathwarehouse.com   You could probably find some other helpful topics there too.

Also, www.tutorvista.com is a website that I have heard a lot of good things about.  I think you can get tutoring help for free.  Look into it and let me know what you find.

Have a good weekend!  Mr B

Wed. 10/21 – Module 3 Test

October 21, 2009 by mrbrandl

First off, it was nice to meet many of you yesterday.  I hope that the summit felt productive.

It’s time for the Module 3 test but I need you all to check your review answers before you take the test.  If you have completed the Module 3 lessons, those should be submitted to Moodle.  The review should also be submitted to moodle, but also emailed to me.  Then we can check those answers and fix them before the test.

Here are a couple of websites that may help with parallel lines:

Basic angles from parallel lines:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLg6hfoKKlE&feature=related

Good example on solving for x, y, and/or z: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQUbFCAv_U4&feature=related

I found these on youtube just by doing a “parallel lines angles” search.  You could probably find more.

Email me those reviews!!!

Week of 10/19… Test 3 and COS Summit

October 19, 2009 by mrbrandl

Hello to another week.  At this point, you should be done (or almost done) with your Module 3 assignments – there were only 4 of them.  Again:

  • Let me know if you are having trouble with any parts of them (email)
  • Submit them in Moodle, and
  • If you need any answers checked, make sure to email me the attachment as well and tell me which ones you want me to check.

I’ll get to the test in a minute…

Tuesday 10/20 we have the Leadership Summit at the Clovis Online School Campus – All students are expected to attend.

Because of this attendance by you, I will not be assigning anything to work on for Tuesday.  You will, however, receive a grade for your attendance at the Summit.  If you do not attend, you will need to email me and complete a makeup assignment.  Please email me by Tuesday 10/20 5pm.

On Wednesday 10/21  – I will post the Module 3 Test in Moodle.  The test will be due by Friday 10/23 at 5pm.

I will be at the Leadership Summit and I am looking forward to seeing you all there.  Topics that I will discuss when we meet:

  1. Daily assignments – little assignments that will need to be completed every day.
  2. Submitting Homework – how to get the worked checked.
  3. Summary of grades
  4. Catching up with the assignments
  5. Anything else that you would like to discuss

Monday 10/12 due dates

October 12, 2009 by mrbrandl

Welcome to another week!  A reminder that your Module 3 assignments have due dates and those due dates are listed with the assignment in Moodle.  Keep track of these due dates and try to stay caught up.

Please email anytime if you need any help.  One thing being brought to my attention is that some of you would like more feedback on assignments.  No problem.

Submit your assignments in Moodle just as you have been.  If you would like any problems checked, email me those separately and I will respond with feedback.

Tuesday 10/6 – some announcements

October 6, 2009 by mrbrandl

Module 2 test – many of you have yet to get this to me…  I’m waiting.  Make sure that you understand the review and then get the test done.  It’s only about 20 mulitple choice questions.

Module 3 due dates – I have posted all due dates in Moodle so that I don’t have to keep listing them here in the Bl0g. Make sure to keep track of those due dates.

For this week, I have 3.01 notes and 3.03 worksheet due by Sunday 10/11(Nothing due from 3.02).  That doesn’t mean you have to turn them in Sunday morning, you can always get them turned in earlier.

Grades - Our first 6 weeks ended last Friday and this is when we turn in a progress report grade for each of our students.  Your grade will be based on your homework completion (from module 1 and 2) and your Module 1 test score.

Don’t freak out if your grade is bad right now, it probably just means that you need to get caught up.  Feel free to communicate with me if you have ANY concerns.  If there is anything that I have learned so far, it is that our communication has to get better.  So please, don’t hesitate to email or message when you have a concern.
